Economics, with emphasis on Labor Economics

Main responsibilities

The main duty is to conduct research in the area of the employment. The duties also include teaching and participation in the work to further the field and teaching more generally. 

The employment is shared between research 70 percent and teaching 30 percent.

Qualification requirements

Eligible applicants for the position of Associate Senior Lecturer should hold a PhD in economics or have equivalent research skills. Priority will be given in the first instance, to applicants who received a PhD or equivalent qualifications no more than five years before the deadline for applications. However, an applicant who has received such a degree earlier may be considered under special circumstances. 

The applicant must have the ability to cooperate with colleagues as well as other abilities that are required in order successfully to meet the demands of the position.

Teaching proficiency should normally be demonstrated through teaching experience at the undergraduate or master’s levels. Teaching expertise should be well-documented and in a manner that makes it possible to assess the quality of the teaching activities.

Assessment criteria

Special emphasis will be placed on research skills within the area of the employment. 

Strong emphasis will also be placed on teaching proficiency demonstrated through teaching experience at the undergraduate and master’s levels.

Strong emphasis will be placed on a detailed research plan covering the employment period.

Strong emphasis will be placed on a documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and fellow researchers.

Strong emphasis will be placed on having successfully planned, applied for and obtained research project funds from external research funding bodies.

Emphasis will be placed on administrative skills and proven collaboration with the surrounding society and dissemination of research and development findings.

It is a merit to have completed at least 7.5 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.

About the employment

This position (in Swedish, “biträdande lektor”) is a tenure track position, and the qualification requirements and terms of employment are regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2017:844).

For this tenure track position, the associate senior lecturer, is employed until further notice, but no longer than 4 years. The contract may be extended by 2 years under special circumstances, such as due to sick leave or parental leave.

An associate senior lecturer, may, on application, be promoted to a permanent position as senior lecturer/associate professor. Specific criteria for the promotion have been established by the Board of Human Science (Dnr SU FV-1464-23).

An application for promotion to associate professor should be submitted to the faculty at least nine months before the appointment as associate senior lecturer expires.

Additional information

Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but the candidate should be prepared to carry out teaching and administrative duties that require proficiency in Swedish within two years of employment.
