Subject/subject description

Conceptual modeling and especially its focus to enterprise modeling is a research area that contributes to developing and adapting the use of information systems to the operational needs of the organization by developing methods and tools for eliciting business requirements and designing information system solutions. Research in conceptual modeling deals with theories, methods and tools for knowledge management, representation and analysis for creating requirements specification for organizational and system design. Conceptual modeling is at the core of many successful research and application fields, such as requirements engineering, systems analysis, enterprise architecture, and capability management.

Main responsibilities

The main duty is to conduct research in the area of the employment. The duties also include teaching, course development and to have course responsibility at all levels within the area of the announcement, as well as participate in administrative work. Examples of content in the courses are requirements engineering, object-oriented system analysis and design, model-based development tools, and IT in organizations. 

The applicant is expected to supervise bachelor's and master's theses in the subject area and participate in administrative work.

The applicant will be involved in the development of the department's collaboration with business community and other research institutions in the field.

The employment is divided between research 55 percent and teaching 45 percent.

Qualification requirements

Eligible applicants for the position of Associate Senior Lecturer should hold a PhD in Computer and Systems Sciences or have equivalent research skills. Priority will be given in the first instance, to applicants who received a PhD or equivalent qualifications no more than five years before the deadline for applications. However, an applicant who has received such a degree earlier may be considered under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave or other similar circumstances.

The applicant must have the ability to cooperate with colleagues as well as other abilities that are required in order successfully to meet the demands of the position.

Teaching proficiency should normally be demonstrated through teaching experience at the undergraduate or master’s levels. Teaching expertise should be well-documented and in a manner that makes it possible to assess the quality of the teaching activities.

Assessment criteria

Special emphasis will be placed on research skills in the field of conceptual modeling, enterprise modeling, requirements engineering and development of modeling methods demonstrated through publication in international scientific journals.

Strong emphasis will also be placed on teaching proficiency in the field of conceptual modeling, enterprise modeling and requirements management demonstrated through own teaching at basic level and advanced level.

Strong emphasis is also placed on a detailed research plan covering the employment period.

Strong emphasis is placed on a documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and fellow researchers.

Emphasis is placed on having successfully planned, sought and received grants for research projects from external funders.

Emphasis is placed on administrative skills and proven collaboration with the surrounding society and dissemination of research and development findings.

Merit is to have completed at least 7.5 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.

About the employment

This position (in Swedish, “biträdande lektor”) is a tenure track position, and the qualification requirements and terms of employment are regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2017:844).

For this tenure track position, the associate senior lecturer, is employed until further notice, but no longer than 4 years. The contract may be extended by 2 years under special circumstances, such as due to sick leave or parental leave.

An associate senior lecturer, may, on application, be promoted to a permanent position as senior lecturer. Specific criteria for the promotion have been established by the The Board of Human Sciences (Dnr SU FV-1464-23).

An application for promotion to associate professor should be submitted to the faculty at least nine months before the appointment as assistant professor expires.

Additional information

An applicant who does not have at least 7.5 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education, and is not deemed to have acquired equivalent knowledge, must complete such training within the first two years of employment.

Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement for the position, but the applicant has to be ready to take on administrative and pedagogical tasks that demand an understanding and usage of Swedish after two years of employment. 

The length of the employment is four years.
