The postdoctoral position is tied to the research groups Level of Living (LNU) and Social Policy (SOCPOL). The LNU group carries out research on welfare development and socal stratification regarding inter alia working life, family life, education, economic resources and health. The research is conducted in both a macro and micro level perspective, mainly on the basis of quantitative data. The macro analyses concern e.g. different explanations of social policy development while the micro analyses concern living conditions of individuals both in the shorter and longer run. The institute hosts a number of databases such as the Swedish Level of Living Surveys (LNU) and the Social Policy Indicators Database (SPIN). In addition, the institute’s researchers have access to a wide variety of population register data as well as several international surveys and other large-scale databases.

The postdoctor is expected to work individually as well as together with others in projects linked to the topical foci at the institute.
