The Department of Economic History and International Relations and the Stockholm Center on Global Governance are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in International Relations (IR). The department is a dynamic and strong education and research department at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Stockholm University. It aims to be nationally leading and internationally prominent within its field of research and education, focusing especially on the three IR sub-fields of International Relations; International Security, International Institutions, and International Political Economy. More information can be found at www.ekohist.su.se.
The postdoctoral position is located at the Department of Economic History and International Relations and is tied to the Stockholm Center on Global Governance (SCGG). SCGG is a center of excellence at Stockholm University, which is funded by the Swedish Research Council and which promotes interdisciplinary research about global governance. The center also offers teaching and societal engagement on the topic of global governance. The postdoc will be part of a group of five postdocs with different disciplinary backgrounds joining the center.
The postdoc will contribute to the center’s research environment and proactively participate in the center activities. This includes lectures, workshops, and conferences, and the organization of seminars.
The main responsibility for the postdoctoral fellow is to conduct research within the SCGG, by collecting own data, analysis, and dissemination of research results via scientific journals and at conferences. The research will focus on phenomena relevant for global governance. In addition, the postdoc should proactively participate in the organization of seminars and workshops within the center. There is commonly the possibility to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.
Special emphasis will be placed on the scientific experience of the candidate. We are particularly interested in candidates with merits in research relevant for international relations or global governance. Additional merits include capacity to work in an international cross-disciplinary team of researchers and to communicate research findings to wider audiences beyond academia. The candidate must have excellent skills in academic written English. The postdoc is expected to contribute research in line with SCGG’s overarching mandate and questions, and the work will be conducted in dialogue with the center leadership.
The position involves full-time employment for a period of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date as per agreement.
