The Department of Environmental Science is one of the biggest departments at the Faculty of Science with about 170 employees. The teaching in the department focuses on environmental science. The main research areas are biogeochemistry, atmospheric science, analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology. Please visit: Department of Environmental Science.

Project description

In this project you will identify alternatives to the uses of persistent and mobile (PM) substances (including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)) and build an alternatives database in collaboration with other researchers. You will also carry out chemical alternative assessments for selected uses of PM substances and PFAS substances using existing and newly developed methods.

The employee will work in a team that focuses on this research area consisting of several senior researchers and three existing PhD students. The postdoctoral fellow would also be part of a research group under the unit for "Contaminant Chemistry" led by Ian Cousins.

This project will be funded by the ZeroPM project. ZeroPM is a research project funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program that runs from October 2021 to October 2026. ZeroPM focuses on persistent and mobile substances. Many collaboration opportunities exist within the ZeroPM consortium.

Main responsibilities

The research will be desk based and the employee will: search and review the scientific literature, build an online database, conduct chemical alternative assessments and write research papers.
