Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) is a research centre on resilience and sustainability science at Stockholm University. The Centre advances the scientific understanding of the complex, dynamic interactions of people and nature in the Biosphere; train the next generation of sustainability researchers and leaders; and engage in collaborations with change agents. It is a joint initiative between Stockholm University and the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The SRC currently employs around 160 members of staff. Main responsibilities

The AI Coordinator will be responsible for exploring, testing, and implementing AI solutions within various functions at SRC, according to our preliminary AI strategy. This role will focus on establishing effective AI workflows and assisting in the development of a robust and ethical AI policy, within our research and organization.

The responsibilities will span of the categories of AI implementation: AI in (for) research and education, AI for improved workflows within administration, and AI as communication support. Within each of these four areas, we expect you will partly work on exploring the potential, evaluating the best alternatives, and then initiating the implementation of AI adoption in various areas.

Specifically, this will consist of:

AI in and for research and eduction

Initiate a dialogue with SRC researchers to understand their needs and challenges and how AI tools can improve their work. Explore and investigate the potential of AI tools such as machine learning, enhanced coding, and editing for research purposes. Test and implement appropriate AI tools to support researchers in their work. Establish workflows and routines to integrate AI tools into existing research processes. Provide training and support to researchers in the use of new AI tools and techniques.

AI for improved workflows within administration

Investigate, design, and implement solutions (e.g., chatbots to handle simple administrative questions). Investigate the use of AI agents as personal assistants to handle tasks such as email overload, and pilot-test these. Train relevant staff in how to effectively use the administrative AI tools to establish effective workflows for the use of the new AI tools within leadership and administration.

AI as communication support

Explore how AI can improve communication results for SRC. Investigate the potential of AI in areas such as project management, content production (e.g., drafts of news articles, social media, reports) and external monitoring. Identify opportunities to use AI to improve efficiency in various communication tasks, including website development and internal evaluation. Implement identified AI solutions in collaboration with the communications department. Train relevant staff on how to use the aforementioned AI solutions.

Qualification requirements

We are looking for someone with the following qualifications and merits:

Genuine Enthusiasm for AI and Rapid Learning Ability: A demonstrable passion for Artificial Intelligence as a field and a proactive, eager approach to learning new AI concepts, tools, and techniques quickly. This is paramount as the field is rapidly evolving.

Extensive Practical Experience with GenAI Systems: Hands-on experience actively using and experimenting with a variety of Generative AI tools and platforms, e.g., chatbots, image generators, and LLM-based research tools

Understanding of GenAI Applications in Workflow Integration: Ability to think strategically about how GenAI tools can be effectively and ethically integrated into existing workflows, specifically within a research or departmental context. This includes identifying potential use cases, streamlining processes, and enhancing productivity.

Basic Understanding of Machine Learning Fundamentals: A foundational understanding of core machine learning concepts, such as different types of machine learning (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning), model training, and basic evaluation metrics. This provides a crucial base for understanding the capabilities and limitations of GenAI.

Knowledge of Current GenAI Landscape and Trends: Up-to-date awareness of the latest advancements, trends, and emerging tools in the field of Generative AI. This includes staying informed about new models, techniques, and potential applications.

Awareness of AI Ethics, Legal Frameworks, and Responsible Use: Understanding of the ethical considerations surrounding AI, including biases, fairness, transparency, and societal impact. Familiarity with relevant legal frameworks such as the upcoming EU AI Act and how GDPR principles apply to AI systems.

Teamwork and Collaborative Spirit: Proven ability to work effectively in teams and collaborate with diverse individuals. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for coordinating within interdisciplinary research groups and other institute parts.

About the employment

This is a full-time employment for twelve month. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date as agreement.
