The Department of Chemistry is, with approximately 200 employees, one of the largest departments at the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University. A significant part of the teaching activities takes place at the undergraduate level with courses in basic physical, inorganic, organic and analytical chemistry. Teaching at the advanced level focuses on the master's programs in sustainable chemistry, organic chemistry and analytical chemistry. Research activities at the department primarily involve the study of materials, and include different classes of these such as ceramics, glasses, porous materials and soft materials. Projects often involve synthesis and characterization using different methods; X-ray, neutron diffraction, electron microscopy, solid-state NMR and computer modeling of materials with potential for various applications. Research activities in analytical chemistry focus on developing advanced analytical techniques for the study of organic compounds and biomolecules. More information is available from us at: the Department of Organic Chemistry and the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry.
The Department of Chemistry was formed on 1 January 2025 through a merger of the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry and the Department of Organic Chemistry.
The position will be associated with the project "Porous materials development for carbon capture and separation under ambient conditions". The project aims to explore and engineer porous materials for application at atmospheric conditions.
The position involves research in the synthesis and modification of porous materials (including but not limited to zeolites, silica, MOFs, or activated carbons), and study of their adsorptive behaviors and applications, such as CO2 adsorption and separation from ambient air. In addition, the position will supervise junior researchers and take care of the laboratory routine.
Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills in synthesis and modification of porous sorbent materials such as zeolites, silica, MOFs, or activated carbons. The PhD degree should have been completed more than three years before the deadline for applications.
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of 12 months. Start date 2025-04-13 or as per agreement.
