The Department of Molecular Biosciences, Wenner-Gren Institute (MBW) conducts experimental basic research in molecular cell biology, integrative biology, and infection and immunobiology. The research environment is characterized by modern and advanced methodologies and has a strong international profile. MBW is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University, with over 30 research groups and approximately 180 employees, including about 65 doctoral students. As a research engineer, you will be involved in participating new and ongoing projects, as well as developing methods in close collaboration with the rest of the team. The work includes method development, literature review, statistical analysis, and drafting scientific reports and manuscripts. The successful candidate will join and strengthen ongoing efforts to characterize tissue communication, with a focus on identifying secreted factors mediating maternal-fetal communication. A combination of techniques will be used, including: In vitro differentiation of pluripotent stem cells Development of organoid cultures Microfluidic co-culture experiments Sequencing techniques Various molecular and functional analyses of mouse models in fetal development and adult pathophysiology.
We are looking for candidates who have at least a master’s degree (a PhD is an advantage), with expertise in molecular biology or stem cell biology, particularly in metabolic diseases and tissue communication. The applicant should have solid experience with multidisciplinary techniques, including: Cell culture (both primary cells and stem cells) Molecular biology Animal physiology Mouse genetics.
The candidate should be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously, solve problems independently, and collaborate well within the team. We seek a positive team player who will also be involved in mentoring master's students and PhD students in the group.
Additionally, strong communication skills and fluency in English (both spoken and written) are required. Knowledge of Swedish is an advantage.
