Nordita, the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1957. It moved to the AlbaNova University Center in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2007, where it is jointly hosted by KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University. Research at Nordita covers a broad range of theoretical physics including astrophysics, biophysics, condensed matter physics, gravitation, cosmology and astroparticle physics, high-energy physics, and statistical physics/complex systems. The research activity of the local academic staff is supplemented by Nordita Scientific Programs, which bring together groups of leading experts to work on specific topics for extended periods. There is also ample opportunity for collaboration with faculty and research staff at local universities. Further information about Nordita can be found at www.nordita.org.

Main responsibilities

The Nordic Quantum network has the ambition to present itself as a global player in quantum technology, while maintaining a close dialogue with other partners both within Europe and outside. This goal will be achieved by establishing a common vision of quantum technology between institutions in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden (and potentially Iceland), strengthening the coordination of activities in the field. Nordic Quantum should be seen from the outside as a world-leading initiative in quantum science and technology, representing a first-tier partner for academic and business activities in the field.

The work is to coordinate a joint Nordic platform for Quantum Science and Technology (QST) and to support the activities of the consortium, such as the organization of the meetings, outreach activity and communication campaign. Tasks include:

  • Setting up a working platform for sharing Master and PhD courses across the Nordics. This includes mapping and spreading information on existing PhD courses.
  • Coordinating and helping organise Nordic summer and winter schools
  • Act as matchmaker and facilitating student exchange between Nordic research activities
  • Administrating/coordinating Nordic doctoral training networks and industry-academia doctoral exchange programs, including identifying and coordinating applications to funding agencies.
  • Coordinating Nordic training for targeted workforce and industry (quantum life-long learning)
  • Organising Nordic Quantum meetings 1-2 times a year; these meetings will allow the consortium to discuss its status and development
  • Organising outreach meetings and maintaining an active Nordic Quantum website. The aim is to involve other stakeholders (industry and policymakers) in the discourse around QST
  • Maintaining an up-to-date website for the Nordic Quantum Network
