Department of Physical Geography is one of the major departments within the Faculty of Science. The department has approximately 110 employees and educates approximately 1 000 students annually. Our research and education is in Physical Geography, a wide-ranging scientific field dealing with the diverse physical and biological features of Earth, their characteristics, processes, patterns and interactions with humans. We study connected physical, chemical, biological, geological, environmental and social processes and changes in the world's land areas and their water, ice and geological formations, climate systems and ecosystems, in relation to each other and to human societies. Physical Geography with focus on geohazards.
The subject covers the study of natural hazards arising from both natural processes and human impacts on landscape and ecosystems.
Research, teaching and supervision. Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Physical Geography with focus on remote sensing and geomatics.
In order to qualify for the position as associate professor, the applicant must have demonstrated good teaching skills and have a doctoral degree, or equivalent research expertise, of relevance to the subject area and the main responsibilities of the position.
All teaching positions at Stockholm University require the ability to collaborate and the general ability and suitability to perform one’s duties.
Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education, or equivalent knowledge, is an advantage. An applicant who has not completed at least 15 credits of teaching and learning in higher education and is not considered to have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge should undergo such training within the first two years of employment.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research and teaching skills. The assessment of research skills will focus primarily on merits within the subject area of the position.
The following will also be considered:
*Swedish “universitetslektor”; tenured position approximately equivalent to Senior Lecturer (UK) or Associate Professor (US).
Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but the candidate should be able to carry out teaching and administrative duties that require good command of Swedish within a couple of years of employment.
