Stockholm University invites applications for an assistant professorship and an associate professorship, WISE fellows, within the framework of the Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability (WISE), a programme funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. The current call is for an associate professorship with research in the field of experimental chemical physics with focus on X-Ray characterization of chemical processes. The person recruited will be part of a national research programme within the framework of WISE, which provides opportunities for broad collaboration with other researchers and stakeholders in the subject. Funding for two PhD students and two postdocs is included in the recruitment package for the successful candidate.

The Department of Physics is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Science with broad basic research activities, both experimental and theoretical. The department has approximately 250 employees of which around 95 PhD students and it has an international character. For more information about us, please visit: Department of Physics

Subject

Experimental Chemical Physics with focus on X-Ray Characterization of Chemical Processes.

Subject description

The subject area is the application and / or the development of x-ray spectroscopy methods (including x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) under operando conditions or in ultrafast approaches for fundamental studies of processes on or in sustainable materials.

Main responsibilities

Research, teaching and supervision.

Qualification requirements

In order to qualify for the position as associate professor, the applicant must have demonstrated good teaching skills and have a doctoral degree, or equivalent research expertise, of relevance to the subject area and the main responsibilities of the position.

All teaching positions at Stockholm University require the ability to collaborate and the general ability and suitability to perform one’s duties.

Teaching and learning in higher education

Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education, or equivalent knowledge, is an advantage. An applicant who has not completed at least 15 credits of teaching and learning in higher education and is not considered to have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge should undergo such training within the first two years of employment.

Assessment criteria

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research and teaching skills. The assessment of research skills will focus primarily on merits within the subject area of the position.

Additional information

* Swedish “universitetslektor”; tenured position approximately equivalent to Senior Lecturer (UK) or Associate Professor (US).

The associate professor will have access to advanced instrumentation for experiments at national and international light sources (XFELs and SR) as well as a local laser infrastructure. The associate professor is further encouraged to make use of the “UOPS” (ultrafast operando photoelectron spectroscopy) instrument funded within the WISE program and to be used with hard x-rays at free-electron lasers and with radiation from high-harmonic generation in the local laser lab.

Female applicants are particularly welcome, as most associate professors at the department are men. The Physics Department has an Equal Rights and Opportunities Committee to further the cause of equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
