The Department of Economic History and International Relations at Stockholm University is hiring a research assistant in international relations for a fixed-term position. The department is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences and has approximately 70 employees and around 500 students per academic year. Research and teaching are conducted in various fields, primarily focusing on economic history and international relations.

Main responsibilities

The position is part of the research project “Unravelling the Secrets of Crisis Detection and Decisive Action” (2024–2027), funded by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). The project explores the governance challenges of horizon scanning and early intervention in an era of complex crises.

Key tasks include:

  • Assisting with research activities, including study design, literature reviews, and data collection
  • Contributing to the writing of papers related to the project’s themes
  • Working closely with the research team
  • Supporting the organisation of consortium meetings and public events.

Qualification requirements

We are seeking applicants who have completed, or are currently enrolled in, higher education in international relations, global studies, governance, public administration, political science, or communication.

Required qualifications:

  • Excellent proficiency in English
  • Strong knowledge of governance literature, including crisis management, foresight analysis, and anticipatory governance
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

About the employment

Part-time (50 %), fixed-term for 8 months. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting.
