The Department of Physics at Stockholm University is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Science and supports a broad range of basic research in experimental and theoretical physics. Project description

The cosmological interplay of axion fields and `dilaton’ scalar fields can lead to a rich variety of cosmological effects, including balloon-like “axion relic pockets” that may comprise dark matter, and gravitational waves from dilaton-triggered confinement phase transitions. This work will further explore these topics, as well as the role of the coupled axiodilaton system for dark energy.

Main responsibilities

Theoretical work including modelling, analytical and numerical calculations, and analysis. The researcher is expected to take an active part in the activities of the research group, e.g. through the organisation of journal clubs. The researcher is expected to disseminate the project's results at national and international conferences and workshops.

Qualification requirements

Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. A background in theoretical cosmology featuring axion-like particles and `dilaton’ fields is particularly desirable. Some weight will be given to the candidates’ experience working on theories of dark matter and dark energy, and their proven ability to derive possible gravitational wave signals from cosmic phase transitions or dark matter dynamics.

About the employment

The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of 12 months. Start date 2025-10-01 or as per agreement.
