The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. SciLifeLab (SciLifeLab) is a national center for molecular biosciences with focus on health and environmental research. The center combines frontline technical expertise with advanced knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience. Main responsibilities

SciLifeLabs Cell and Molecular Imaging (CMI) platform offers access to advanced imaging technologies, from cryo-EM and tomography to super-resolution microscopy. The platform enables visualization of biological systems at multiple scales – from molecules to tissues – using state-of-the-art instruments that are not normally available in individual laboratories.
Computational methods and artificial intelligence based on large-scale molecular data are transforming the study of biological systems at all levels – from molecular structures and cellular processes to human health and global ecosystems.

We are currently seeking a System administrator to support the operation and further development of our advanced computing and data infrastructure. The role includes administering Linux-based servers and clusters, automating workflows, and assisting users in a dynamic research environment.
As a key infrastructure person, you will play a central role in connecting our user communities and developing new data services together with senior experts at the SciLifeLab Bioinformatics Platform and the SciLifeLab Data Centre – to enable groundbreaking research in a new era of quantitative and predictive biology.

  • Install, configure and maintain Linux servers (hardware and software)
  • Manage clusters, software environments and automation tools (e.g. Ansible)
  • Develop and maintain scripts (Python or equivalent) for automation and monitoring
  • Provide user support and collaborate with researchers to ensure efficient system usage
  • Ensure efficient management and analysis of large amounts of imaging data
  • Communicate with other data generating platforms within the SciLifeLabs Integrated Data Service program
  • Collaborate with national high-performance computing (HPC) resources.

Qualification requirements

  • Very good knowledge of Linux distributions
  • Experience in installing and administering servers
  • Competence in cluster management and software deployment
  • Good proficiency in Python or other scripting languages
  • Knowledge of automation tools (e.g. Ansible)
  • Strong communication skills and good ability to provide user support.

Meritorious qualifications

  • Administration of distributed storage systems (e.g. Ceph)
  • Experience with large data sets (e.g. image data)
  • Knowledge of network technologies
  • Experience with container and virtualization solutions
  • Windows system administration.

About the employment

This is a full-time, indefinite-term employment with a six-month probationary period. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date as agreement.
