The Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University has around 40 faculty staff members, divided into three divisions: Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics and Computational Mathematics, and about 50 PhD students and Post Docs. The division of Mathematical statistics performs research in e.g. discrete probability, high dimensional statistics and actuarial science, beside infectious disease modelling. The research group in infectious disease modelling usually consists of 3-4 people.

Project description

The project is financed by a grant from The Swedish Research Council with Tom Britton as principal investigator. The project aims at improving statistical methodology for outbreak data. One specific example is to generalize the renewal equation for expected incidence, used to estimate the effective reproduction number, but several other problems in the area may be treated.

Main responsibilities

The main responsibility is to carry out research. The position also includes some teaching and other department duties up to 20 %.

Qualification requirements

In order to qualify for a Postdoctoral position, applicants are required to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent relevant degree from another country. The degree must have been completed no later than when the employment decision is made.

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills described in the fields above. Suitable competences include probability theory and stochastic processes, epidemic models, statistical methodology for epidemic outbreak data, simulation and statistical analyses using suitable software, good communication skills and ability to collaborate.

About the employment

The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2026-09-01 or as per agreement.

We offer
