Project description

The project is based on the assumption that social position can influence health, but that health can also influence social position. It aims to develop a deeper understanding of the processes that give rise to social inequalities in health through longitudinal analyses of the interaction between working life factors and health. The data material consists of the Labour Force Survey (LFS) as well as population registers on demographic composition, socioeconomic conditions, and health from Statistics Sweden (SCB), the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, and the National Board of Health and Welfare.

Main responsibilities

The position involves data management, including the linkage of survey and register data; the design and conduct of advanced longitudinal statistical analyses; and the writing of scientific articles in collaboration with researchers within and outside the Department of Public Health Sciences. Work within other ongoing research projects at the department will also be included. The main responsibilities further include participation in project meetings and the presentation of research findings within and outside the Department of Public Health Sciences.

Qualification requirements

In order to qualify for a Postdoctoral position, applicants are required to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent relevant degree from another country. The degree must have been completed no later than when the employment decision is made.

Assessment criteria

Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in public health sciences or an equivalent degree. It is considered an advantage if the doctoral degree or an equivalent degree was completed no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Under special circumstances, an older degree may also be an advantage. Special circumstances refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

In the appointment process, particular emphasis will be placed on scientific excellence and productivity within the project’s overall research area, documented skills in advanced statistical methods, documented experience in combining survey and register data, experience of working independently with Swedish register data, and relevant subject-specific expertise.

Substantial weight will be given to communication and collaboration skills, as well as personal suitability.

Very good proficiency in spoken and written English is required, as well as some understanding of Swedish.

The position requires a strong ability to collaborate, effectively organize work, carry out tasks independently, and communicate complex statistical issues clearly.
