The Institute for International Economic Studies (IIES) is seeking two research assistants. As a research assistant, you will work closely with faculty members, PhD students, and other research assistants on data-intensive research projects in economics. The team studies inequality and social mobility using large-scale administrative microdata and newly digitized historical sources, applying modern econometric and machine-learning methods to address policy-relevant questions.
The positions provide exposure to all stages of the research process and offers strong preparation for PhD studies in economics or for a research-oriented career in the public or private sector.

Main responsibilities
As a research assistant, your primary responsibilities include:
Constructing and maintaining large datasets based on administrative records and historical archival documents. Cleaning and documenting complex datasets using Stata, R, and Python. Implementing advanced econometric and machine-learning methods. Writing clear and reproducible code within well-structured project environments. Producing tables, figures, and concise empirical summaries that communicate results effectively to the research team.
Qualification requirements
Applicants must hold a university degree in economics or in a closely related quantitative field (such as statistics, data science, computer science, mathematics, or engineering). Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in applied empirical research.
Strong programming skills in at least two of the following languages are required: Stata, R, and Python. The selected candidate is expected to develop proficiency in the remaining language if necessary.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required, as English is the working language of the research team.

About the employment
This is a full-time position with a duration of twelve months. Starting date upon agreement. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually.
