The Department of English provides education at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, and is part of the Faculty of Humanities. The Department has a staff of about 35 people. There are approximately 750 registered students at undergraduate level.

Subject area 

At the Department of English, we research and teach within many areas of both English literature and linguistics. The Department of English is advertising one temporary lecturer position in English Literature.

Main responsibilities

The successful applicant is expected to teach various courses in English, including the teacher education programmes and courses in academic English. The position is primarily in English literature and English proficiency and grammar. The position also entails some administrative duties, and possibly supervision of bachelor’s and master’s theses as well.

Qualification requirements

Applicants should have a PhD in English, or corresponding research qualifications, as well as demonstrated teaching skills. The teaching skills should be well-documented in a manner that makes it possible to assess the quality of the teaching activities. Teaching skills include the planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination.

The candidate must have the ability to cooperate, as well as the ability and general suitability required to perform the duties well. You must be thorough, responsible, structured, and have the ability to work independently. The ability to collaborate and work under time pressure during certain periods is a requirement.

Assessment criteria

In the evaluation of candidates for this position, special and equal emphasis will be placed on teaching skills and research skills in relevant areas of English literature. It is also a merit if the applicant has competency within the area of nineteenth-century English literature. Strong emphasis will be placed on the ability to cooperate with colleagues, and on the ability to perform administrative tasks, such as managing courses and programmes, etc.

Following a qualitative overall assessment of skills and abilities, the University will primarily consider those candidates who are deemed to have the best prerequisites to perform and develop the relevant tasks, as well as contribute to a positive development of the department’s operations.

Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education worth at least 15 credits, or equivalent knowledge, is an advantage.

About the employment

This is a temporary, full-time position that comprises 70 % teaching and 30 % professional development.

The position is full-time and is limited for one year, starting in August.
