The Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University has around 40 faculty staff members, divided into three divisions: Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics and Computational Mathematics. The division of Mathematical statistics performs research in e.g. discrete probability, high dimensional statistics and actuarial science, beside infectious disease modelling. Currently the research group in infectious disease modelling consists of 3-4 people.

The position is primarily funded by two grants of Tom Britton: the Swedish Research Council and Strategic Faculty funding, with the aim to conduct research in infectious disease modelling and its statistical methodology. We are looking for candidates with experience and interest in stochastic epidemic modelling and its related statistical methodology. The research can be theoretical or applied or both.
Useful skills include: probability theory, stochastic processes, statistical inference, computational statistics, inference for stochastic processes, simulations, good knowledge of writing and speaking of English and cooperation skills.
The main responsibility is to carry out research. The position also includes some teaching and other department duties up to 20 %.
Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills described in the fields above.
This is a full-time employment for a maximum of 12 months. Start date September 1 2025, or as per agreement.
