Main responsibilities

As Project Assistant you will contribute to research on modeling and analyzing uncertainties in the European energy system.

The main tasks include:

• Collecting and processing historical and future weather data to simulate wind and solar power output.
• Gathering historical and projected hydrological data to estimate hydro inflows across Europe.
• Collecting historical natural gas price data and other relevant energy market indicators.
• Compiling and estimating energy demand data, including increases in electricity demand due to electrification of transport, heating, industry, AI, and data centers, and reductions in energy demand potentially driven by AI and digital efficiency improvements.
• Collecting nuclear and transmission grid outage data.
• Assisting in the development and refinement of a European energy system model to incorporate various uncertainties.
• Documenting data sources, model inputs, and simulation results in a clear and reproducible manner.

Qualification requirements

• A Swedish M.Sc. degree, or an equivalent degree from another country, in engineering, energy systems, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
• Good knowledge of energy systems, economics, and optimization methods.
• Experience with energy system modeling (e.g., PyPSA, MESSAGE, TIMES, OSeMOSYS, or similar frameworks).
• Familiarity with uncertainty quantification, stochastic optimization, or robust modeling approaches.
• Strong analytical and programming skills (e.g., Python, Julia, or MATLAB).
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.

About the employment

The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of 12 months. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date as agreement.
