Subject/subject description

Ethics and ethical considerations for technology developers and designers are increasing. This concerns questions such as how designers can integrate ethics into their practice and what new concepts, tools, and techniques are available or need to be developed to better support the role of ethics in design and development processes.

Main responsibilities

The main tasks include research, teaching, course development, course responsibility, and supervision, primarily in courses on Interaction Design and Ethics in IT Design. The occupant of the position is expected to strengthen the theoretical foundations and practical relevance of the courses.

The occupant of the position is expected, as part of the research group in interaction design, to strengthen the group's theoretical and practical competencies, particularly regarding the importance of ethics in interaction design. Most of the research involves empirical studies such as interviews, surveys, and workshops within companies working with interaction design. These studies should lead to practically applicable tools and practices developed by the holder. Teaching at both undergraduate and advanced levels, including thesis supervision, is also part of the role.

The position is divided between 55 percent research and 45 percent teaching

Qualification requirements

To be eligible for the position of Associate Senior Lecturer, the candidate must have obtained a doctoral degree in Computer and Systems Sciences with a focus on Interaction Design or possess equivalent scientific qualifications. The scientific competence should strongly reflect expertise in qualitative methods and a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of IT design processes.

Priority will be given to applicants who received a PhD or equivalent qualifications no more than seven years prior to the application deadline. However, applicants who obtained their doctoral degree or equivalent qualifications earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances.

The applicant must have the ability to cooperate with colleagues as well as other abilities that are required in order successfully to meet the demands of the position.

Assessment criteria

Special emphasis will be placed on research skills as shown by the applicant’s own research.

Strong emphasis will be placed on documented experience in research concerning the complexity of interaction design and the significance of ethical aspects therein.

Strong emphasis will also be placed on pedagogical skills shown in teaching and supervision on the bachelor and master level. The pedagogical skills need to be well-documented in such a way that it is possible to judge the quality of the pedagogical work.

Strong emphasis will also be placed on a detailed research plan covering the employment period.

Strong emphasis will also be placed on a documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and fellow researchers.

Emphasis will be placed on having successfully planned, applied for and obtained research project funds from external research funding bodies.

Emphasis will be placed on administrative skills and the capacity to cooperate with society at large as well as inform society at large about research and development.
