The Department of Law is one of the larger departments at Stockholm University. The department has around 150 employees and 5,500 students. More than 70 teachers are engaged full-time in teaching and conducting the research on which the education is based. Procedural law with a focus on arbitration law
The duties include teaching, research, administration, and contacts with the surrounding community. The position is full-time and includes teaching for 70 percent of the annual working hours. Teaching includes lectures, seminars and other interactive course elements, examinations, course responsibility, course administration, supervision, and the development and updating of teaching materials.
The position involves research and teaching primarily in arbitration law. Teaching in procedural law other than arbitration law may also be included, as well as teaching in other subjects.
The duties also include applying for external research funding and following developments in the teacher's own subject area and in society in general that are relevant to the teacher's work at the university.
According to Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, a person who has completed a doctoral degree in law, or has equivalent scientific competence, and has demonstrated pedagogical skills is eligible for employment as a senior lecturer.
A requirement for employment is a good knowledge of both English and Swedish, and the person offered the position must be able to teach in both languages within two years of the start of employment.
As a general eligibility requirement, the applicant must have both the ability to collaborate and the ability and suitability otherwise necessary to perform the duties of the position.
Particular and equal weight is given to scientific and pedagogical skills. Consideration also given to administrative skills and the ability to interact with the surrounding community.
Preference is given to those with expertise in arbitration law, particularly international arbitration law, as well as other Swedish procedural law.
In assessing scientific competence, primary consideration is given to the scientific quality of the research. The scope of the research, particularly in terms of depth and breadth, is also taken into account. Particular importance is attached to experience of research in arbitration law, particularly international arbitration law, and Swedish procedural law. Furthermore, consideration is given to the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and research education, as well as the ability to obtain competitive research funding. The ability to interact both within the academic community and with the surrounding society is also considered important.
When assessing pedagogical skills, the primary consideration is the quality of teaching. The scope of previous teaching is also considered important. Particular emphasis is placed on experience of teaching arbitration law, but teaching other procedural law and other legal subjects is also considered meritorious. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop teaching, as well as the ability to link teaching to research, is taken into account. The ability to interact regarding higher education with actors within and outside the university is also included in pedagogical skills.
Administrative skills and experience, as well as other skills and experience relevant to the position and the duties involved, are also considered merits. Such skills can be demonstrated, for example, through the ability to plan activities in a comprehensive manner, the ability to lead activities and staff, and the ability to collaborate. The ability to interact with the surrounding community and to communicate about research and development work is also considered a merit.
